In early November this lovely, young lady walked into my downtown Barrie cafe and in the softest of voices asked if we might be interested in showing other people’s art. Coincidentally it happened to be on the exact same day the art from a previous artist was going to be moving on. The timing couldn’t have been perfect! Now we are so happy that her fabulous works are gracing our walls!
Available for purchase are four paintings along with three small painted cards.
Now here’s a little bit about Jai Satya Kaur:
Jai Satya Kaur brings a warming glow to her yoga & art classes. She has been doing yoga since the age of 16 as she started her teaching journey with Kundalini Yoga which developed into a deeper passion and commitment. She completed a practitioner course on Life Styles and Life Cycles, continuing education.
Art has always been a prevailing aspect in Jai Satya’s life. It comes in flows of expression allowing creativity to dance. She completed one year of Fine Arts at Lakehead University surrounding herself with creativity allowing new chapters in her life to come up.
She has done murals for over 5 years. Murals has been one aspect that flowed with her and allowed many pieces to prevail themselves.
The Lazy Tulip Golden Milk Latte
Steamed Coconut Milk with turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, pepper, coconut oil and maple syrup. Have it “Dirty” with a double shot of Planet Bean’s Stellar espresso!
I have been reading about the benefits of Golden Milk so today we decided to give one of these a try. Not only is it super healthy but it’s super delicious! Golden Milk is a great, tasty and incredibly healthy drink and the benefits are outstanding!
The main ingredient in this recipe is turmeric. It contains curcumin, polyphenols identified as the main active ingredient that is present in more than 150 potential therapeutic activities, and includes antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties. Combined with pepper, the benefits of curcumin significantly increase.
With the addition of black pepper in dishes seasoned with turmeric the bioavailability of curcumin increases by about 1000 times, and it is credited to the peppers. This means that by mixing turmeric and pepper together, the body absorption of the turmeric increases up to 2000 percent.
When turmeric and ginger are mixed with coconut oil, they become more readily absorbed by the body (one of the important features of healthy saturated fats).
We at the Lazy Tulip have decided to try it Dirty by adding a double shot of espresso to it resulting in an unbelievably delightful beverage sure to give you that boost of energy to help you get through this Barrie winter!

Printable PDF Map – Who New?! September 2014
We are excited to be a part of the Downtown Barrie Art Crawl on Saturday, September 13th from 7pm – 11pm!
The Barrie Art Crawl was first launched in April 2014. They had hoped for at least 75 people but hundreds turned out for an evening of visual art, music and food.
There are 13 downtown venues involved stretching from Maple Avenue to Mulcaster St.
Another exciting part about this crawl is that many non-art related downtown businesses have jumped on board and will be offering pop up shows that won’t be on the map. This should be an exciting night for Downtown Barrie!
Our featured artist for the event is Cynthia Blair. Cynthia is a local artist from Midland, ON. We were appropriately attracted to her painting of “Red Tulips” which is currently hanging at the cafe. Cynthia Blair’s work is strongly influenced by the rich and colourful landscapes of the Killarney, Algonquin and Georgian Bay areas. Many of her paintings are done Plein Air, no matter the weather or season. Bold, vibrant florals are also one of her familiar subjects, often creating a close-up view of the flower. Cynthia will be joining us for this evening to discuss her work.
Michelle Huggins will be featuring her photography from INDIA with her black and white full frames along with a photo slideshow on the Lazy TV.
We will also be featuring a community art mural on our patio! Everyone is invited to partake in adding their own artistic inspiration!
From 7:30 – 8:10 pm we are excited to have Todd Jeffrey of The Morals doing a solo performance set.
Todd is a local Barrie Boy who’s main gig is writer/performer for the well known Barrie band The Morals.
After a brutal, long, cold, snowy, depressing winter some of the downtown Barrie business owners decided we needed to get together, thanks to Sarah Jensen, and talk about how we could bring in some new energy.
As we all know, the song “Happy” by Pharrell Williams is the hit of 2014. It’s a song full of positive energy and…well…you just can’t help but be happy and sing along to it! One day I came across this fun video of a community from Canmore, BC that was promoting their Food & Wine Festival. And then there was this overwhelming feeling that this would be a great way to promote downtown Barrie. And we did. Here it is.
Join us on June 6,2014 as Kool FM broadcasts from the Lazy Tulip Cafe patio for their annual Barrie Patio Prowl!
We will be offering a $7.50 Lunch Box special to include our ever popular Avocado Wrap along with a House Brewed Iced Tea.
Please join us for Mother’s Day Brunch on May 11! Last year was a great success as we continue to offer a menu that has something for everyone with vegan and gluten-free options available!
Our Barrie’s Mother’s Day Brunch menu will consist of three courses for $19.95 and will be available all day Sunday, May 11 starting at 8:30am until 3pm. We are requesting that you reserve your table by calling us at 705-252-0910 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please note that our regular brunch menu will not be available on this day.
Seems like if we’re going to carry soda then this company is a great fit for the Lazy Tulip!
SIP stands for “Simple, Infused, Pairings of Botanicals and Fruit” – set in a Sparkling, Spring water base with only 25 calories.
SIPsoda co. is based in Vancouver, BC and founded by local Food Scientist and Fine Water Connoisseur, Jennifer Martin. SIPsoda co. core values, like the drink, are pure, simple and honest.
We’ll be carrying the following flavours:
Lavender Lemon Peel … for the Earl Grey drinkers, Chocolate lovers and dessert fans.
Coriander Orange… makes a cooling compliment to those favorite Indian dishes.
Rosemary Lime… a refreshing favorite that works well anywhere, anytime.
Yesterday I realized my whole life has been a lie! And here goes the evolution of the Lazy Tulip! Yesterday afternoon we had our first barista training with Planet Bean Coffee our new supplier of exceptional coffee well known in the Guelph area. Planet Bean takes great pride in giving you the best coffee experience and are getting us right on track to bringing you the best cup of coffee in Barrie.
Ryan, a Planet Bean Barista, spent about an hour showing us how to extract the perfect espresso. First off we emptied out the all the previously ground coffee out of the holder as the first rule is to grind the beans per order! Next, let’s just toss that single espresso wand right into the garbage because they just do not exist at Planet Bean. Double and triple wands only! All our espressos & americanos are now double shots!
Ryan teaches us how to properly fill the wand with freshly ground espresso spreading the coffee all the way to the edges and then with his beautifully crafted tamper presses down with 30 lbs of pressure! Added to the shopping list: triple espresso wand, a timer and a new beautifully crafted tamper like Ryan’s! After the tampering process Ryan inserts the wand of heaven into our Gaggia, gets out his timer and presses the button. It should run around 20 seconds he says starting off with a dark colour that progresses into caramel. Now we examine this liquid gold with a layer of crema so thick that you just want to nestle up in it and float away! Now the taste test….omg……this truly is the best espresso I’ve ever had and we produced it on our own espresso machine. This is only the beginning of a lifelong friendship!
Next…..milk drinks. What do you mean I shouldn’t be using my fancy little automated milk frother? But……ugh…….okay, I can adapt! Milk is steamed to perfection using the good old fashioned espresso machine frother….by hand. And then the inevitable…..the learning of the latte art. Not an easy task…in fact…I successfully made a ghost on my first attempt. Rather impressive at this time of year! Ryan showed me up with this…a flower. I’ve got a long way to go but at least I’ve got the espresso part down which is where it all starts as the real magic starts from there!
Thanks again to Ryan and Byron of Planet Bean. This is just the start of a beautiful relationship!
